I tend to function under the assumption that all people will make the Right choices at the Right time if they know all Right information.
This morning at a roundtable discussion, business owners and advocates discussed small businesses Going Green. A consultant pointed out that when he walks a business and identifies waste reduction opportunities – energy and otherwise- he wants to turn to the business owner or manager and scream “Why are you not doing this?” The answer would probably be “Because this is the way we’ve always done it.”
Well “the way we’ve always done it” isn’t good enough anymore. It’s time to RETHINK.
There are Sustainability Assessments to determine the 5 Ws + 1H of Waste in your company.
• Who is wasting?
• What is being wasted?
• When does the waste happen?
• Where does the waste occur?
• Why is this waste happening?
• HOW can we eliminate the waste?!
If your company is wasting something (energy, time and other resources) and an investment needs to be made, there are calculators available to determine your ROI (return on investment). Payback will happen for most upgrades or changes, you just need to know - and be comfortable with -the timeframe. Sometimes the changes are so small they don’t appear to “cost” anything, but reap you immediate payback!
So, why are you not doing this?
