Top Tips to Go Green and See More Green
Go Green and See More Green
Lighting
Turn lights off when not in use or when sufficient natural lighting exists.
Upgrade lighting to CFL or LED bulbs and fixtures.
Thermostat
Seasonally adjust your thermostat. The US Department of Energy suggests 78 in the summer and 70 in the winter.
Use programmable thermostats to adjust temperatures while your office building or home is vacant.
Outdoor Water Usage
Choose Xeriscaping instead of traditional landscaping techniques. Native and adaptive plants tolerate the heat better and require less water.
Add 1-3 inches of mulch to keep plants’ roots cool and moist in warm weather, and helps prevent evaporation.
Use Rain Barrels to catch and distribute (FREE) rain water to landscape.
Drip Irrigation and Soaker hoses deliver water directly to the plants, which reduces water lost to evaporation and can cut water used for irrigation in half.
Indoor water Usage
• Toilet tank water displacement
• High-efficiency flush
• Dual flush
• Waterless Urinals
Fix leaks as soon as possible. This could save hundreds of gallons of water.
Check your water heater. If it’s over 7 years old, wrap an insulating blanket around it to prevent heat loss or upgrade it to a tank-less model. Set the water temperature at 120 degrees.
Recycling. You could save over 20% on your waste disposal costs by recycling half your waste.
Paper Usage
Is this entire document relevant or would only selected pages be sufficient? Can I scan and email this document instead of faxing?
Switch to Paperless for billing, accounts payable, and payroll.
Print double sided and use waste paper as scratch paper.
Transportation
Reduce the number of miles you drive by carpooling, vanpooling, utilizing public transportation, walking, biking, telecommuting, and trip-chaining.
